Keith Adams is performing again with his band from a few years back, Giant Wow! The same crew is back, but with a few changes. Jesse Gilsinger and Robert Moore are still manning vocal/guitar and bass duties, respectively, but Keith is now a second guitar player instead of drummer. Kit duty is now under the capable reins of Kevin Sturgill.
The band’s live approach provides a richer and more dynamic sound than ever before, and they plan on writing and releasing some crazier, more fun power pop sometime this year. Stay tuned!
The end of 2008 and the start of 2009 have provided The Proper Authorities with some wonderful online partnerships and opportunities.

It has been a long time coming, but finally “The Ninth Life Jitters” is the second song from the “Public Service Announcement” CD to receive a finished video treatment! Just like the “Devastate” video that came before it, Keith Adams used CGI, greenscreen, and old-fashioned elbow grease to singlehandedly bring this high-octane visual assault to life. Visit the Video page to learn more!
In non-video form, “The Ninth Life Jitters” also appeared on Charlie McEnerney’s Well-Rounded Radio in Mix 005. This eclectic virtual mix tape meshes a variety of genres together using songs from indie artists across North America (and even one from Italy).
Keith Adams is also playing in the Goombas, the off-kilter, alt-fusion house band for Cincinnati’s newest performance venue, the Cloven Hoof Theatre! The grand opening of this “theater of the weird” is on June 16, 2007, and it features the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus from NYC, with an opening performance by the Barnyard Burlesque and the Goombas! Stop on by, and click here to learn more!

The website has finally been updated! Audio samples of the “Public Service Announcement” CD are now here online, so please let us know what you think!
The Cincinnati modern rock outfit known as The Proper Authorities has finally released its first full-length recording through the imprint Talon First Records.
The LP CD, entitled “Public Service Announcement,” features 13 tracks and over 50 minutes worth of high-impact material for listeners and lovers of heavy guitar, electro textures, lush vocal harmonies, and booty-shaking grooves.
The Proper Authorities is the brainchild of singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Keith Adams. Best known for his drum and synth work for Acid Itch / Jamm recording artists Sound Mind, Adams confidently takes on all vocal and instrumental duties in this impressive debut effort. Meshing old-fashioned musicianship with technological wizardry, this relatively lo-fi production sounds anything but.
“My goal with this project was to create something in the rock realm that could actually have fun with the not-so-fun concept that we are, all of us, running out of time,” says Adams. “One of the hugest motivating forces in life is the primal struggle of getting things accomplished while we have breath in us. I could easily have made it solely about the darkness and morbidity of that idea, but it was more challenging to sonically aim for the emotional dynamics that we all experience as we run against that clock.”
Indeed, the tracks range in tone from adventurously playful (“The Ninth Life Jitters,” “Whodunnit,” “Penalty”) to straight-ahead serious (“Losing The Now,” “The Depth of Things,” “The Way Back”) to bleakly introspective (“Today,” “Make A Choice For Me”). Although there is an emphasis on hook and groove, Adams gets a chance to show off some of the vocal chops that he only hinted at in earlier musical projects.
Wondering what the future has in store for him and this DIY-extreme musical undertaking, his enthusiasm for the project is balanced with a healthy dose of “come-what-may” and pride for the completed CD. “I got it done, which is saying A LOT,” laughs Adams. “It’s cool that my lyrics were motivational to me, if to no one else.”
But the work is not over, as far as he’s concerned. What’s next on the horizon? A video for the song “Devastate” is due in February, remixes of various songs from “Public Service Announcement,” and working on other related projects. Is there a live act in the future? “I have to admit that I get my live kicks in Giant Wow, but never say never.”
The Proper Authorities have been selected to be a part of the MIDEM 2006 conference as one of the featured artists on the TuneTank compilation! This is MIDEM’s 40th anniversary, and it is probably the world’s largest international music industry conference today. Click here for more information on the event, the compilation, and the other musicians involved!
The first full-length CD release is ready to go and slated for a January 2006 release. The CD, entitled Public Service Announcement, will be released by Talon First Records out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
This 13-track album will feature over 50 minutes of original material, some of which can be heard at the Proper Authorities MySpace and PureVolume pages. To get you ready for Public Service Announcement‘s release, each of those two sites has a different, as-yet-unreleased track that you can take a listen to! Don’t forget to leave some comments and love at those pages!
There are two great links that I hope you will take time out to visit. One is the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the other is SendCourage.org.
